Ostend Ferry port

Ostend is a quirky yet highly picturesque Belgian city located in West Flanders. Ostend’s strategic position on the North Sea has led to its development into a major port city. Ostend is also one of Belgium’s most popular seaside resorts; its fine sandy beaches, esplanades and the pier draw thousands to Ostend each year.

The Ferry Port:

Ostend ferry port is one of the most versatile seaports with the ability to cater to all kinds of traffic. The port itself is a thousand years old but has recently undergone a major overhaul and now possesses all the latest equipment to offer efficient services to all the many passengers passing through the port.  Ostend ferry port is also a convenient gateway to other European countries like France, the Netherlands and Germany as well as Belgium.

Beaches

Ostend has one of the most attractive sandy beaches in Belgium with a beautiful esplanade and a pier.

Atlantikwall

The Atlantikwall is an impressive construction made up of complex tunnels and bunkers, built by German troops during the First and the Second World Wars.

Fort Napolean

Fort Napoleon in Ostend is the only intact Napolean fortress still left in Europe. Built by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1810, Fort Napoleon to the north of the city centre in Ostend is now a training ground for climbers and a major tourist attraction.

Museums

You can visit the house of James Ensor in Ostend, the famous Belgian artist whose house has now been turned into an arts museum featuring all of his famous works of art.
The Mercator is a floating maritime museum aboard an old Belgian Merchant ship.


Places to eat and drink:

Ostend is not short of places to eat and drink ranging from street corner cafés to restaurants and charming and traditional Flemish pancake houses.  L’Enfant Terrible at 16 Nieuwstraat, just a few minutes’ walk from the harbour as well as the town centre offers outstanding quality food.  Another charming restaurant serving excellent steaks, fish and omelettes is the Stad Kortrijk and Foyer restaurant is a real highlight if you are seeking good food combined with seaside views.
